Research Programme and Scholarly Focus
My research is situated within the broader field of Management, with particular interests in human resource management, organisational behaviour, performance management, strategic performance management and institutional effectiveness. Within this broader foundation, I am developing Military Performance Management (MPM) as a distinctive programme of research concerned with performance at individual, unit and institutional levels in military and defence organisations.
Military Performance Management
Conceptual, theoretical and empirical examination of performance management within military and defence institutions, connecting individual and unit performance with institutional effectiveness, military capability and strategic defence performance.
Strategic Performance Management
Research on the alignment of organisational performance systems, strategic priorities, institutional capabilities and measurable outcomes, with particular application to complex public and defence institutions.
Human Resource Management
Research on human resource practices, employee performance, training and development, leadership, career development and the organisational conditions that shape individual and institutional performance.
Military Effectiveness
Examination of the organisational and performance-management foundations of military effectiveness, including the relationship between personnel performance, unit outcomes, institutional capability and strategic objectives.
Defence Management
Research connecting management scholarship with defence institutions, including performance systems, organisational capability, accountability, strategic alignment and institutional development.
Institutional Effectiveness
Research examining how organisational systems, human resources, leadership, performance management and institutional arrangements contribute to sustainable organisational and strategic outcomes.
Military Performance Management (MPM)
A central strand of my current scholarship examines Military Performance Management as an integrated process through which the performance of military personnel and units contributes to institutional effectiveness, military capability and the achievement of strategic defence objectives.
Strategic Performance Management & Military Effectiveness
Examining how strategic performance-management systems can strengthen organisational alignment, institutional effectiveness and military capability in contemporary security environments.
MPM & Institutional Effectiveness
Investigating the relationship between military performance-management practices and broader institutional outcomes, including effectiveness, accountability, capability and strategic performance.
Comparative & International MPM
Developing comparative perspectives on military performance management across national and institutional contexts to strengthen theory, empirical evidence and international scholarly collaboration.
